Itinerary
Day 1
Marrakech towards Imi Oughlad 1650 m altitude, the starting point for the hike and the point of our meeting with our mule teams. 1 hour 30 minutes drive from Marrakech, arriving at our starting point, loading the luggage on the mules after which we begin our trek with a climb, crossing typical villages, a juniper forest, arriving at the 1950 m pass, a small descent to arrive at the place where we find our cook, after our lunch we continue towards the village Id Aissa1780 m. Night at the stopover lodge.
1 hour 30 minutes drive and 4 hours walk. +200 m & - 170 m elevation gain.
Day 2
Departure from id Aissa towards the Tkent 'N'tizgui valley.
After our breakfast, we will begin our small path which goes down to a typical village, visit, then continue our walk to cross the river, then gradually climb a ravine up to the 2200 m pass, a small rest at the pass, then continuing towards our lunch spot next to a spring under the shade of walnut trees. In the afternoon, a small climb towards a small pass, superb views of the surrounding peaks, then descend to the bottom of the valley to the village Tkent1650 m. Night at homestay. 6h30 walk. + 450 m &- 650 m elevation gain.
Day 3
Departure from Tkent towards Tizi Oussem, we begin our trek to cross several cultures then we climb to the left towards the Tizi Tagdalt pass 2800 m, superb view of the surrounding peaks, after 2 hours of walking on the descent we stop for our lunch next to a spring under the shade of juniper trees. 1 hour 30 minutes of descent After our breakfast we arrive at our bivouac, great place, next to the river. Possibility of washing in the river. 7 hours of walking. +1160 m & - 1040 m.
Day 4
We start our day with a climb towards the Toubkal national park, and crossing a forest of thuriferous, oxicidal and red junipers, we take a path which takes us to the Tamsoulte pastures. Lunch, then continuing towards the Irouliden waterfalls. Bivouac at 2750 m next to a spring. 5 hours of walking. + 950 m & - 100 m elevation gain.
Day 5
At 8 a.m. we start our day to climb a 3600m pass. Above the pass a breathtaking view of the Ait Mizane valley, the Azzaden valley and the neighboring peaks of Toubkal 2 hours of descent towards the Toubkal refuge 3207m. Lunch and sleep on site either at the shelter or in a tent ⛺️. 6h30 walk. + 950 m 460 m.
Day 6
Very early in the morning After our breakfast we begin the ascent of the gigantic summit Toubkal 4167m, with a special rhythm for the ascent steadily to the summit, breathtaking view of all the adjacent valleys and all the crest of the western Atlas chain. 2 hours of descent to the refuge, lunch then continuing our 3 hour descent to Imlil 1740 m. 8 hours of walking in total. + 950 m & 2400 m elevation gain. Transfer to Marrakech or spend the night at the riad in Imlil. End of the hike.
What to bring:
Soft backpack: Opt for a soft hiking backpack with a capacity of around 40 to 60 liters to carry your belongings. It is easy to transport on mules.
Hiking Shoes: Sturdy, comfortable hiking shoes with good traction are essential for mountainous trails.
Suitable clothing:
Base layers: Thermal underwear to regulate body temperature.
Middle clothing: Insulating layers of fleece or down for warmth.
Waterproof and windproof jacket: Protect yourself against bad weather.
Hiking pants: Opt for durable and comfortable pants.
Hat, gloves and scarf: To protect you from the cold.
Sleeping bag: A warm, weather-appropriate sleeping bag is essential, especially if you plan to spend nights at altitude.
Hiking poles: They help relieve pressure on the knees and maintain balance on rough trails.
Meat Sack: A meat sack sheet can add warmth to your sleeping bag.
Headlamp: A practical light source for night hikes and in shelters.
Water bottles or filtration system: You will need a means of purifying water for safe drinking.
**Food and snacks: Bring energy and light foods for hiking days.
Swiss knife or multi-tool: Useful for various outdoor tasks.
Maps and compass: For orientation, even if you have a guide.
Sunscreen and sunglasses: Protect yourself from high UV rays at altitude.
First aid kit: Include basic items like bandages, antiseptics and personal medications.
Identification documents and cash: Make sure you have your passport, trekking permit (if necessary) and cash for local expenses.

Conditions: Variable Weather: Weather conditions in the mountains can change quickly. Hikers should be prepared for cold, wind, rain and snow, even in summer. It is essential to check the weather forecast before heading out and dress accordingly.
High Altitude: The Toubkal massif reaches considerable altitudes, including the summit of Toubkal itself at over 4,000 meters. Hikers should prepare for the altitude by gradually acclimatizing to avoid altitude sickness.
Fitness Level: Hikes in Toubkal can be physically demanding, particularly the climb to the summit. It is recommended to be in good physical shape before leaving and to train for mountain hikes.
Proper Equipment: As mentioned earlier, proper equipment is essential. Quality hiking shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, warm sleeping bags and other equipment should be carefully chosen.
Water supply: Access to water may be limited in the mountains. Hikers should carry water purification methods, such as filters or tablets, to avoid health problems.
Respect for local culture: Hikers should be respectful of local culture and customs, especially in Berber villages. It is recommended to ask permission before photographing locals and to follow local rules.
Waste and environmental protection: Hikers must take their waste with them and respect the natural environment. Avoid leaving traces of your passage.
